My kind of house
All about my food. What I'm eating, what I'm cooking, what I want to cook. A place for me to tell me and maybe you, about what is keeping my body moving forward.
finished up the day at work with more pepperoni and a carrot. had to bag my lunch because when I opened the box I was hit by uber garlic onion face. oops, not so good for new clients. “Hi I’m Merlin, I’ll be your stylist today…. don’t mind all that garlic.” note to self: keep the garlic/onions to a minimum at work, fish probably a no no as well.
came home to the fabulous chicken, we didn’t have onion or garlic powder so I subbed in garlic salt and celery salt, didn’t add the full amount of sea salt. Came out delicious, falling off the bone.
#meal 1 today: more salmon and capers and a carrot. still trying to find fresh breakfast foods, my tummy doesn’t want heavy things in the morning, makes me feel queasy. no i’m not preggers, just back on the nuvaring. never noticed this side effect before… have had trouble being hungry in the morning. red peppers seem to go down okay, smoked salmon is going well, carrots are all right. maybe cucumbers….? are they a fruit or a vegetable?
Monday Dinner Adventure in action
10-15 pepperoni’s, half a pack of salmon - lox style, 15ish capers, 1/3 bottle still mineral water
no fruit — single tear, it is summer after all —
no nuts, fine fine, bye bye almond butter you aren’t good w/o apples any way
no dairy, cheese we were only just getting to know each other again, I know I’m best w/o you, though your flavors are so tasty
no alcohol — well that makes this easy, no more hangovers … sadly no more fancy spritzers either, was loving the club soda with juice of one orange and bitters as my refreshing beverage… oh well — summer beverage options: herbed mineral water? minty still mineral water, my new favorites coming soon.
September 2nd.. Birthday girl gets some fabu fruit.. perhaps. She hopes so. No fruit, so sad, last sigh. done.
Warm up: 15 situps, 3x as long as possible arm hangs averaged 15 secs with green band, 10 kettle ball swings .. something I’m forgetting, jump ropes?
WOD - 15:26
800m row
50 box jumps
50 kettle ball swings (first 10 - 20lb, next 40 - 15lb)
200 single unders
Cool down: Stretched those holy hipflexors and did my-o-facial (sp?) lacrosse ball foot S spaped ow/goodness, hamstrings felt much better — pain areas, mid top and outside center. Do it more.

in the end, we had:
4 .5lb garlic/salt/pepper burgers baked at 400F for 25 mins
2 small elk steaks marinaded in mustard, fig vinegar, red wine, and crushed garlic for 25 mins, pan seared on medium for about 5 mins per side. still a bit tough, but tasty, perhaps I’m just not cut out for the game-y meats. would love to know how to slow cook these, get them tender.
1 huge beet, peeled cubed, tossed in melted ghee, then roasted in top third of oven at 400, covered 20 mins, uncovered 25 mins
2 leeks - roasted with beet, just sliced and put in parchment packet, opened packet for last 20 mins
2 small white potatoes sliced and tossed with ghee, rosemerry, and salt, parchment paper packet for about 25 mins
2 medium onions sauteed on low-medium in just under a tablespoon of butter in my le cruset pan for premium caramel flavor - about 20 mins
prep time pre cooking 20 mins: I scrubbed and sliced potatoes and beet and then threw them in the fridge, oops potato turned that funny color, oh well, still tasty.
an hour later made marinade for elk steaks and threw then back in the fridge
cooking process - preheat oven 400, melt ghee, toss and make parchment packets, start steaks sauteing - oops a little early - had luke warm steaks :( spiced burger meat while veggies began roasting, put them in under the veggies for the last 25 mins of veggie time, sliced and sauteed onions while we waited. worked pretty well except for the cold steaks …. they were my wild card. better next time.
my meal: 1.5 burgers, onions, 1/4 cup beets (very sweet), 1 potato… my cheat. no more of those til September, sigh. half a leek, mmmmm. more green vegetables next meal.
like the cooking method, ease of marinade, and mustard-ness, love me some mustard.
